Mexico’s Ramon Garrido Secures Olympic Spot in Badminton for Paris 2024

The Mexican delegation continues to add seats heading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games directly and via ranking, as appropriate for each sport. This time it was Ramon Garridowho granted Mexico one more ticket for the summer fair, after The International Badminton Federation announced the Olympic ranking and Conade confirmed the pass through a statement.

Garrido was mathematically classified after having completed their participation in the XXVII Pan American Individual Championship that took place in Guatemala in mid-April and the president of the Mexican Badminton Federation, Francisco Javier Orozco Flores, made the ticket to the Olympic Games official.

This event was the last scoring event towards Paris 2024 where they will compete 35 athletes in the women’s branch and 35 in the men’sfor the Olympic podium in this discipline.

Recently, in an interview for the Conade, Ramón Garrido confessed that, “Paris 2024 is the culmination of a painful and beautiful process at the same time”this after he had to go through eight knee surgeries and other injuries.

Among the most important achievements of this Aztec badminton player are the gold medal he won at the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 as well as becoming the first men’s medalist in the individual category to get on the podium at a Pan American Games, when won bronze in Santiago 2023.

This will be the third time that Mexico has representation in this sport within the men’s individual branch, after Lino Muñoz will qualify to be in Rio 20216 and Tokyo 2020. Badminton entered the official program of the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992.
