Three years ago, Meril Loquette participated in her first Paralympic Games in para-badminton.

After a success against the European champion, an injury during his second match ruined his chances of a medal in Su5, a category which brings together standing players with a handicap affecting an upper limb. The Andrésien, who received the City medal, then vowed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Games to take his revenge. On April 23, the member of Les Volants de Cergy completed the first part of his quest. At the end of 15 months of competition, the 27-year-old player, who started at Maurecourt, is one of the seven French players who will compete in the Olympic para-badminton events, from August 29 to September 2, 2024 at the Arena Porte de the Chapel in Paris 18th.

Qualified in Su5

“This qualification was harder to obtain than that of Tokyo even if I obtained a better ranking and I did not go to the selection committee,” declared Méril Loquette. The player born without a right hand, who is a double 2023 European champion (in singles and men’s doubles), had achieved excellent international results to rise to 4th place in the world in singles. Arif Rasidi’s protégé was a winner in Lima (Peru), a semi-finalist at the 4 Nations in Sheffield (England) and Ottawa (Canada) and a quarter-finalist in Toledo (Spain), Tokyo (Japan), and Manama. (Bahrain), Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Vitoria (Spain). These performances reward his efforts – 25 to 30 hours of training at Cergy and Insep – and his career. » I practiced judo before turning to badminton. I competed in valid until the age of 18 before starting in para-badminton in 2016,” specifies the disabled sportsman, whom the general public discovered as an actor during the broadcast of two episodes of the series Vestiaires, in November 2023 on France 2.
