Frenchwoman Madeleine Malonga won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi this Wednesday.
Two months before the Olympic Games, Frenchwoman Madeleine Malonga won the bronze medal at the World Championships on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi against Korean Lee Jeong-yun.
2019 world champion, world vice-champion in 2021, Malonga adds a third world medal to her list of achievements with this bronze, at 30 years old.
She was able to overthrow the Korean when she was trailing, winning on penalties: the Korean was disqualified after three sanctions.
In the semi-final, she did not find the solution against the Italian Alice Bellandi, who ended up making her fall on o-soto-gari (mowing).
Tcheuméo leaves with nothing
Also beaten by Bellandi, but in the quarter-final, the other Frenchwoman, Audrey Tcheuméo, had to go through a repechage match to play for bronze.
In the final for 3rd place, she thought she did the hardest part by knocking down Emma Reid then immobilizing her on the ground. But she released her grip and was caught in the same action. The Briton lasted 20 seconds and scored ippon.
Cruel for the woman who won a fifth European title a month ago, at 34, to overcome the disappointment of her non-selection for the Olympics.
