Luka Doncic on Kyrie Irving: “He’s a blessing”

And yet Doncic averaged almost 30 points, 9.5 assists and 8.8 rebounds, but he had to work damn hard for that. This is nothing new, what was new was that the playmaker wasn’t even the best player on his team. That was Kyrie Irving, who backed that up with 28 points in the second half of Game 6.

“It’s a blessing that we have someone like him on our team,” exulted Doncic. “He’s always positive, he helps everyone. (…) What he did in the second half was incredible. I never have any doubts about him, it’s just great to see the plays he keeps making.”

Irving took 13 throws after the break, ten of which went through the net and only one attempt was near the basket. Instead, it was once again a demonstration of shot making, jumper after jumper nailed by Irving into the basket, thus opening the can for the Mavs’ half-court offense, which never really wanted to get rolling.

The icing on the cake was a four-point game against PJ Tucker, when Kyrie viciously chewed out the 38-year-old in a small space and then hit the three-pointer with a foul without balance.
