The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg were the last team to qualify for the playoffs of the Basketball Bundesliga and will face main round winners Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals.

In the last game of the newly introduced play-ins, coach Josh King’s team beat Veolia Towers Hamburg 91:78 (45:35) on Thursday evening (May 16, 2024) after a convincing performance.

BBL, play-ins arrow right

“Our boys have character. They found a way,” said King at Dyn: “It’s a great reward.” As outsiders, the giants “have nothing to lose” against Bayern. There’s a reason why they came first.

Ludwigsburg, eighth in the main round, lost to Telekom Baskets Bonn (7th) on Tuesday (69:90) and missed its first chance to make it into the playoffs.

Desure Buie was the best Ludwigsburg player with 26 points

Hamburg (10th) won the ninth EWE Baskets Oldenburg (93:81) and stayed in the race, but clearly failed in the all-or-nothing game in front of a disappointing crowd against Ludwigsburg around top scorer Desure Buie (26 points).

For Hamburg, Aljami Durham scored seven three-pointers and 25 points in the final quarter, with a total of 34.

Bonn starts at Alba Berlin

The playoffs begin on Friday. Bonn starts at Alba Berlin (2nd), the other duels are Niners Chemnitz (3rd) – Rasta Vechta (6th) and ratiopharm Ulm (4th) – Würzburg Baskets (5th).
