Local Hero Joel Schwärzler Ready to Shine at Danube Upper Austria Open

The euphoria among local tennis fans has already been fully rekindled. There are enough reasons for this: one of them is Joel Schwärzler. The 18-year-old local hero, who from Jürgen Melzer and Günter Bresnik has been brought forward and is currently number one in the ITF Junior Rankings, has big plans. The Vorarlberg ÖTV contract player is one of the greatest hopes for the future and would like to show his best side on home clay and consistently continue his successful path of the last few weeks.

In April, Schwärzler faced off against a former JJ Wolf for the first time on the ATP Challenger Tour in Savannah (USA). Top 100 players through – the American was number 39 in the world in February 2023 – and continued to quickly climb up the ATP rankings.

“I’m really looking forward to Mauthausen. I’ve been playing recently Union Mauthausen in the Bundesliga, so it will be a home game. I like the places and the facility and feel really comfortable there. The basic requirements for a good week of tennis are therefore met,” says the 18-year-old Schwärzler.
