Josip Stanisic has drawn attention to himself with a clear signal to Bayer Leverkusen. As part of the Werkself’s title celebrations on Sunday afternoon, fans cheered the Croatian, who is on loan from FC Bayern until the end of June.

When stadium announcer Tobias Ufer called on the 24-year-old, chants of “Josip, Josip” broke out. “Take the Lederhosen off the Bavarians” also rang out throughout the BayArena.
Stanisic was visibly pleased by the fans’ euphoria. The defender thanked them with a hand gesture and tapped the Bayer logo on his T-shirt several times with his right hand.

Back in March, Stanisic was asked about his situation for the coming season. “I haven’t given it any thought yet. The season is still long, we are taking part in all three competitions, that is what we are focusing on. After that comes the European Championship. What happens beyond that is still up in the air,” he said at a press conference at the time.

Two of three titles have now been won, and the Munich native will compete in the European Championship with the Croatians. He will then return to Bayern. Or will everything turn out differently?
Leverkusen without purchase option
Problem for Leverkusen: The Werkself have no option to buy Stanisic. “With Josip, the situation is such that he has a contract with Bayern Munich, and as long as nothing changes, I assume that he will go back to Bayern Munich,” said managing director Fernando Carro recently in the Bild newspaper.
Dieter Hoeneß, the defender’s advisor, has also already announced his return to Munich.
Stanisic is under contract with Bayern until 2026. The Leverkusen player scored four goals and provided six assists in 38 appearances last season.
