Josh Giddey Cleared of Allegations: NBA Investigation Closed

Based on information from Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon ofESPN, the NBA closed its investigation into Josh Giddey yesterday. Police in California had already declared in January that they were not going any further in their pursuits. The Oklahoma City leader seems out of the woods for good, after several months of trouble with the American justice system.

Accusations of inappropriate relationships between Josh Giddey and a minor surfaced on social media at the start of the season. The Newport Beach police, responsible for the case in California from November 29, 2023, declared that they were not able to prove any illegal activity on the part of Josh Giddey and that they would therefore not initiate legal proceedings.

The NBA, which had launched an investigation of its own, therefore arrived at a similar observation and clearly ended its investigation. The Australian player never commented on these accusations and continued his season with the Thunder until the Western Conference semi-finals, where the Mavericks won 4-2 against OKC. Giddey averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists, 0.4 blocks and 0.2 steals on 45.3% shooting for his first NBA Playoffs.

After the elimination of his team, the Oklahoma leader was quite emotional at the end of season press conference, admitting that this season was extremely tough for him, both on and off the field. Between these accusations, the whistles from the fans and the difficulties sometimes encountered on the floor (he lost his starting place in the Playoffs because of his big shooting limitations), the Australian had it tough.
