Jeremie Frimpong seems to want to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, BILD reports. The 23-year-old back has a buyout clause of forty million euros, but this is only valid before the start of the European Championship. Interested clubs must complete a possible transfer before June 14, otherwise Leverkusen can ask whatever it wants. According to Transfermarkt, the two-time international of the Dutch team is worth fifty million euros.

Frimpong is having a great season at Die Werkself. The right foot has so far scored fourteen goals and twelve assists and recently won the national title in Germany. Leverkusen is also in the final of the DFP-Pokal and the Europa League, which means Frimpong may be able to add two more trophies to his trophy cabinet.

However, there is a good chance that the Amsterdam-born back is in his last weeks at Leverkusen. According to BILD, Frimpong ‘tends’ to leave and take a step up. The Dutch international has no shortage of interest as Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United were reportedly recently on the hook.

Bayern Munich is also interested, but because the Rekordmeister has still not appointed a new coach for the coming season, a transfer has been put on hold for the time being. Reports recently emerged that Thomas Tuchel may remain in his post after all.

Frimpong made his debut for the Dutch national team in October in the home game against France (1-2). At the end of March against Scotland (4-0), he played for more than an hour, but was unable to make any progress.

The lightning-fast back seems, if fit, a certainty in Ronald Koeman’s European Championship selection. Frimpong has to compete with Denzel Dumfries, but is also mentioned here and there as a possible option for the left flank of the defense.

Frimpong comes from the youth of Manchester City, where he could not break into the first team. In the summer of 2019, he therefore left for Celtic for just €400, where he made a splash. At the beginning of 2021, he exchanged the Scots for Leverkusen for a sum of eleven million euros. The counter now stands at 139 matches on behalf of Werkself.
