Welcome to sunny Abu Dhabi, where the world’s greatest judokas compete at the World Judo Championships ahead of this summer’s Paris Olympics. Today, it’s time for mixed team competitions: 6 against 6, the very essence of teamwork, with three men and three women from each group.

In the semi-final, Japan faced strong competitors from Uzbekistan. Japan quickly took the lead thanks to a restraint from Mao Arai. But soon after, an impressive ippon from Turoboyev looked promising for an Uzbek victory. Japan ultimately won 4–1 and progressed to the final.

The France versus Georgia semi-final was a much closer contest with wins in the first four games, until world champions Margaux Pinot and Axel Clerget closed the contest with a French victory and progressed to the match for the gold medal.

Japan and France face each other again in the final, as in the last 6 world championships, with a series of victories for Japan so far! Could France finally put an end to this series?

Starting with the heavyweights, Japan quickly took the lead. Nakano, Tamaoki and Tanaka all won their rounds until Margaux Pinot turned the tables. Kawabata’s victory against Clerget, however, once again sealed Japan’s victory in mixed teams.

The gold medals were presented by the President of the IJF Mr. Marius Vizer and Max-Hervé George, CEO of Icona Capital. The gold trophy was awarded by Mohammed Bin Thaaloob Alderei, President of the UAE Judo Federation.

End of this day full of emotions in Abu Dhabi. A flag passing ceremony took place to convey the honor of hosting the Judo Worlds to Hungary next year.
