Jalen Brunson Leads Knicks to Game 1 Victory with Fourth Consecutive 40-Point Game

NEW YORK (AP) — Jalen Brunson scored 43 points, becoming the fourth player in NBA history with four consecutive 40-point games in the postseason, and the New York Knicks beat the Indiana Pacers 121-117 on Monday night, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Brunson scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Knicks’ comeback after they trailed by nine early in the fourth, and joined Hall of Famer Jerry West, who had six games with 40 points in the postseason, in addition to Michael Jordan and Bernard King (both with four).

Donte DiVincenzo hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 39 seconds left and scored 25 for the Knicks, who opened the second round with the kind of close games that reigned in the victory over Philadelphia in the first. Josh Hart added a playoff career-high 24 points, along with 13 rebounds and eight assists. 7

The second-ranked Knicks will host Game 2 on Wednesday.

Myles Turner recorded 23 points for the sixth in the East, the Pacers, who had a solid game from their reserves and had an advantage over the Knicks after leaving Milwaukee on the road in the first round.

But Brunson led the New York team to another tight finish, after edging Philadelphia by one total point in six games in the first round.
