There are two days left, or even less if you want to count the hours, until the second and last Pre-Olympic boxing championship towards Paris 2024 (and, if things don’t change, also the last in an absolute sense: boxing is currently out of Los Angeles 2028). There are various issues to note during the presentation.
First, the remaining passes up for grabs for the more than 600 who will go to the ring. As for men, there will be 28 Parisian tickets available, divided as follows: four for 51kg, 92kg and +92kg, three for 57kg and 80kg, five for 63.5kg and 71kg.
Instead, as far as women are concerned, this is the breakdown of the 23 places that qualify for Paris 2024: there are four each for 50 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 66 kg and 75 kg. The only exception is the 60 kg, with three seats.
Italy, which has already conquered eight places in the French capital, tries to increase its batch of boxers who will seek the five-ring dream. In particular, Federico Serra will compete in the 51 kg, Michele Baldassi in the 57 kg, Gianluigi “Gigi” Malanga in the 63.5 kg, Salvatore Cavallaro in the 71 kg. Among the women, with passes already won in five out of six categories, they are trying to go all out Melissa Gemini nei 75 kg.
At the moment the Italian team is the fourth largest contingent, together with that of France and behind Australia (12), Brazil and Uzbekistan (10). A sure candidate to give excellent signals is Michele Baldassi, but there are certainly possibilities for Gigi Malanga too: they can be defined as the leaders in the current state of affairs. However, it should be noted that, even if passes did not arrive from here, for Italy it would still be a truly high-level and above all numerous expedition, a fact that, only in 2021, seemed difficult to imagine.
The draw will be held tomorrow, while, as mentioned, the big maneuvers will begin from Friday 24th until June 2nd. In particular, the last three days will see the fights that are worth going to Paris. First of all at the Arena Paris Nord, which is the Parc des expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte area. And then, who knows, on the Court Philippe Chatrier of Roland Garros for the final stages.
