The “Pafbet” Latvian Basketball League (LBL) final series between “VEF Rīga” and “Rīgas Zeļliam” will begin on Thursday, May 9, the Latvian Basketball Association (LBS) informs.
As Salvis Mētra, director of the Latvian basketball leagues, confirmed to LETA agency, an agreement has been reached with the clubs that the first two games will be held at their homes in the “Rimi” Olympic Center and the Daugava Sports Hall, respectively. It is possible that some of the future matches of the final series will also be played in “Arena Riga”.
The last time the two Riga teams fought for the title was in 2010, when “Barons” beat “VEF Rīga” 4-3.
The semi-finals of the LBL ended on Saturday, when the debutants “Rīgas Zeļļi” won the series 3-1 over “Ventspili”. In the second semi-final series, “VEF Rīga” beat “Liepāja” 3-0 and reached the final for the 14th time. The bronze series between the two Kurzeme teams will start on May 11.
Last year, “VEF Rīga” basketball players became the champions, beating “Ventspili” 4-1 in the final, while “Liepāja” won 3-1 over “Ogri” in the battle for bronze.
