Specifically, Indiana is complaining about 78 (!) plays from the first two playoff meetings against the New York Knicks. According to the Pacers, the plays in question were called incorrectly. The team from Indiana was inferior to the Knicks in the two games.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle announced that his team had identified 29 potentially controversial decisions from the first game. The original plan was not to complain about it, but due to the refereeing performance in the second game, they changed their mind. Another 49 potential wrong decisions from the second round are said to have been submitted to the NBA.

“I can promise you that we will submit these tonight,” said the head coach on Wednesday evening after the second game.

Carlisle, after being sent off for two technical fouls in the final minute of the game, suspected his team was at a disadvantage because they were playing the Knicks against a league economic heavyweight. The American coach emphasized that even small teams should deserve a fair chance.

“New York can prepare. You will see that too. “I always talk to our boys about not doing it through the officials, but we deserve a fair chance,” announced the 64-year-old.

Pacer guard Tyrese Haliburton took the wind out of the subject’s sails and grabbed his own nose: “Let’s not act like it was the only reason we lost. We just didn’t play well enough.” He added: “We just have to get better.”

What happened?

In the first game, two controversial scenes in particular caused excitement among the spectators. With the score tied in the final minute, the referees called for a kicked ball, even though Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith only had his hands on the ball.

This led to the Knicks getting another chance, which they actually converted into a lead. Referee Zach Zarba admitted the mistake after the game, but emphasized that such decisions cannot be reviewed.

Moments later, the Pacers’ opportunity to take the lead was denied when an offensive foul was called against Myles Turner after he attempted a block.

In the last game there was a lot of excitement: an unpunished step error by Isaiah Hartenstein and an accompanying accidental whistle. This was also the trigger for Carlisle’s disqualification.

Before the third game, the Pacers will now have to rethink their defensive strategy, especially when dealing with Knicks star Jalen Brunson, who showed impressive performances after an injury layoff.
