Historic ITF Professional Tournament Kicks Off in Trelew Tennis Club under Distinguished Guests

Governor Ignacio Torres, Mayor Gerardo Merino and Vice Governor Gustavo Menna, along with other provincial and municipal authorities, accompanied this Monday afternoon the opening of the unprecedented ITF Professional Tournament at the Trelew Tennis Club, together with the president, Rodrigo Lassaga, and the rest of the entity’s board of directors, collaborators, 20 of the 32 players who will star in the main draw, the AAT referee body, boys and teachers and members of the entity.

The Governor valued the growth of the club that was achieved “with intelligent decisions.” He highlighted the role of “sports training and development for the next generations, which will allow us to have better people tomorrow.”

He stressed that these activities allow us to “show the city”, because “it is time to start being a showcase for the good things, the talents, the institutions and the living forces that we have in the city and in the province, which is what suits us.” to be vigorous. Because this generates work, boosts the economy, and that is why it is important to reinforce and promote sport.

For his part, Mayor Merinohighlighted the development of the ITF M-25 professional tournament that will be played in an unprecedented way in the country on indoor courts and on a cement surface, at the Trelew Tennis Club. He also thanked the Province for its support and the work of the Argentine Tennis Association, representatives of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Northeast Chubut Tennis Association (ASOTENECH) and the Trelew Tennis Club.

“This moment is important for sport and Trelew. Thanks to the joint work with the institutions, today in a city that is going to turn 159 years old and with a club with 100 years of experience that throughout history left everything and thought of great, we can begin to position Trelew in the place it deserves,” Merino emphasized.

He considered that “with this work to promote sports and different activities in the city, the history of the city is beginning to change.”

Likewise, the president of the club, Rodrigo Lassaga, and the sports director of the institution, Fernando Nogueira, agreed that this tournament is a “historic event for local sports and the city.”

Both thanked those who “made this event possible, whose protagonists are the players who deserve the applause; because they are the ones who strive every day to keep this sport alive.”

Also, they highlighted the importance of the tournament because it is the first time that a professional tournament is held in Argentina on indoor courts, which allows the city to remain in the history of Argentine tennis.

In the subsequent dialogue with the press, Lassaga hoped that in the future the club could achieve a Challenger Tournament, of higher international hierarchy and which are usually the springboards for ATP tournaments.

The opening ceremony, which lasted just over half an hour, included the delivery of reminder plaques from the Municipality of Trelew and Chubut Deportes -one of the sponsors- on the one hand and from the Government and Legislature of Chubut, represented by the Governor. and vice for the other.

Finally, the boys who make up the institution’s youth team presented presents to 20 of the 32 players that make up the main team and the refereeing team.

Speaking of boys, the most outstanding players of the institution were those who carried the flags of national ceremonies, that of Chubut and that of Native Peoples.

THE TOURNAMENT

The ITF M-25 will be the corollary of two events prior to the Main Draw, such as the Pre-Qualy and the Qualy that ended this Monday with the classification of the last eight players.

The championship competition will be played under these circumstances for the first time in the country, given that it is unprecedented for it to be played on fast surfaces and even more so for it to be done indoors. Mostly in the country it is played on clay and on outdoor courts.
