High tension in Essen for the second and final day of European Pre-Olympic archery competitionscheduled in Essen (Germany) and valid as a continental Olympic qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Games. The final stages of the men’s and women’s tournaments will be played today, with three non-nominal individual quotas per gender up for grabs.
Italy, absent with the women after having achieved the pass thanks to Chiara Rebagliati’s bronze at the 2023 European Games, is betting everything on Mauro Nespoli to guarantee the certainty of bringing at least one man to the five-ring event. The Tokyo 2021 Olympic silver medalist (the only Italian still competing) will challenge the Ukrainian Mykhailo Usach in the quarter-finals and a victory could also prove to be enough to celebrate the ticket to Paris.
The other three quarters scheduled will see the Dutch Steve Wijler and the Swiss Keziah Chabin and the Slovenians Ziga Ravnikar and Den Habjan Malavasiv face each other in the upper part of the scoreboard, while in the lower part, in addition to Nespoli-Usach, there will be a direct clash between the British Conor Hall and Dutch Senna Roos. Holland, Switzerland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Italy and Great Britain will therefore compete for the three available slots.
