Guinea Coach Kaba Diawara Reflects on Paris Saint-Germain Days and Olympic Dreams

Guinea coach Kaba Diawara played for three years in the French capital for Paris Saint-Germain.

The 48-year-old Frenchman, who was born in Toulon, also appeared for Bordeaux, Marseille and Nice.

“For me, it’s a real mix of emotions. I feel apprehensive, honoured and proud at the same time,” he told FIFA ahead of the match.

“The last time Guinea took part in an Olympic Football Tournament was back in 1968, so we’re going to have to fight to qualify again. The only way we can qualify is by winning.

“Our fourth place at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations kept our Paris 2024 hopes alive, and we believe we can do it with all our hearts. When you’re a sports lover, it’s a source of pride to take part in the Olympic Games.”
