Grasshoppers Dominate with Strong Offense, Split Series with Indians

A slow first inning brought no points for either team, but in the second inning the home team showed their full class: Moritz Riedmann scored after a hit by pitch from Kyle Kush, then Moritz Jäger contributed an RBI to give the Indians a 2-0 lead. In the third inning, Markus Trimmel shortened the lead to 2-1 after Kyle Ashby’s single – then nothing happened for a long time.

It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the Grasshoppers scored again through Tobias Werner. In the seventh inning the Indians scored through Robbie Gauthier, then in the eighth inning the knot broke: Gauthier followed up with a home run before Kush and Chris Squires made it 2:6 and the final score.

Grasshoppers with a strong third inning

The first point in the second encounter of the day came from Moritz Riedmann for the home team. In the second inning there was calm before the storm – and that came in the form of a scoring explosion from the Grasshoppers in the third. The guests delivered a total of six points from Werner, Ashby, Niklas Fröhlich, Trimmel, Tyson John McKee and Eric Clauss.

And the lead continued to grow: Alexander Schiller scored in the fourth inning, and the Grasshoppers added four more times in the fifth inning. The Indians didn’t catch on until the seventh inning – but before that the Grasshoppers were still in charge – Jacob Clauss gave the guests a 12-2 lead. The Indians countered with two impressive home runs from Ferdinand Obed and Marcel Theiner.

With three points from Kush (2x) and Squires, the hosts came within 12:6, but the baseball fair in Dornbirn should be read. The Indians offense couldn’t find a way to counter “strike-out machine” Tyson McKee and therefore has to be content with the “split”.
