Giro d’Italia, Martinsicuro Fano stage, Alaphilippe wins

The mark of a Classics great like Julian Alaphilippe on the 2024 Giro: the Frenchman, twice world champion on the road (2020 and 2021), won the twelfth stage, from Martinsicuro (Teramo) to Fano (Pesaro-Urbino), after 193 km of running. Alaphilippe, 31 years old, interpreted the stage to perfection, designed on the hills of the Marche with many climbs that recalled the Belgian classics: on the run with Maestri, the Frenchman then gave the decisive break on the last wall of Monte Giove, when at Arrival was 13 km away. Second on arrival was the always brilliant Narvaez, third was Hermans. Tadej Pogacar remains in the squad, arriving with the group at more than 5’31”.
