Giro 2024: Tadej Pogacar wins the eighth stage, his third success in the Tour of Italy

Untouchable. This 2024 edition of the Giro is dominated by Tadej Pogacar who is too strong for the competition. This Saturday, the Slovenian rider won the eighth stage of the Tour of Italy, between Spoleto and Prati di Tivo (152 km).

The double winner of the Tour de France (2020 and 2021) took advantage of the very good work of his team not to make unnecessary efforts. His partners from UAE Team Emirates allowed him to save time, and finally win in the sprint ahead of the Colombian Daniel Felipe Martinez (Bora-Hansgrohe), and the Australian Ben O’Connor (Decathlon – AG2R La Mondiale).

The French Romain Bardet, Julian Alaphilippe and Valentin Paret-Peintre started in today’s breakaway, but they were finally caught. The favorites took advantage of the last climb of this eighth stage to take the lead of the race, and finally compete for victory in the sprint.

At the end of the race, Tadej Pocagar thanked his partner Rafal Majka at length, who took over Valentin Paret-Peintre 4 km from the end of the race. Before dropping his Slovenian leader 600 m from the finish line.

For his first participation in the Giro, Tadej Pogacar flies over the competition. The Slovenian has already won three stages: the second, the seventh (time trial), and therefore the eighth, this Saturday. The pink jersey largely dominates the general classification.
