Get Active in La Plata: A Guide to the City’s Sports and Recreation Programs for All Ages

The Municipality of La Plata invites you to enjoy the city’s public spaces, engage in physical activity in contact with nature and establish social ties with a series of sports, recreational and inclusive proposals for all ages.

According to the Undersecretary of Sports and Physical Activity, registration for any of the activities is free and must be confirmed in advance by sending a WhatsApp message to 221 524 5179 or an email to [email protected].

NATURE AND SPORTS IN THE “REPU”

The Children’s Republic is the setting for “Life in Nature”, a program that puts children from 6 to 11 years old from different neighborhoods of the city in contact with the environment. Participants spend the morning at the emblematic property, touring its spaces and interacting with them.

On the fields of the educational and recreational park, sports initiation schools for football and basketball are also developed for children between 6 and 12 years old; and the Kayak School, for people over 13 years old, without age limit, with one-hour classes in the space’s pool.

On the other hand, as part of the “City in Motion” program, functional gymnastics classes are given at the Peter Pan Station, while localized gymnastics, stretching and Pilates for adults are practiced on the basketball court.

SPORTS INTRODUCTION SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE CITY

The Municipality’s agenda also includes sports initiation schools for paddle tennis, tennis, judo, soccer, mixed recreational soccer, recreational volleyball, athletics, skating, hockey, beach handball, basketball and initiation to sports in different locations in Villa Elisa, City Bell, Hernández, Gonnet, Altos de San Lorenzo, San Carlos, Melchor Romero, Etcheverry and Los Hornos.

Likewise, at the Municipal Sports Center there is children’s, youth and recreational basketball for adults; basketball for children, youth and adults; functional training; children’s and cadet football; women’s and men’s futsal; gymnastics for adults and the elderly; children’s and youth artistic gymnastics; children’s handball; youth and adult korfball; skate for initial, intermediate and advanced level; children’s and youth taekwondo; youth and recreational volleyball for seniors; and yoga.

Within the framework of the communal proposal that invites physical activity outdoors “City in Motion”, there are gymnastics classes for young people and adults, adapted functional, salsa, functional training, Zumba, gymnastics, yoga and Latin rhythms in various parks and city squares.

The activities take place in Plaza España on avenues 7 and 66, Parque Alberti, Plaza Belgrano, the rambla on avenues 32 and 4 bis, Parque San Martín, the Tolosa Delegation, the Children’s Republic and Plaza San Martin from City Bell.

SPORT, RECREATION AND INCLUSION

The Municipality’s annual proposal includes the “Adapted Sports” program, with PC Intellectual Football and Goalball and PC Boccia matches at the Los Hornos Municipal Sports Center, gymnastics and soccer at the Melchor Romero Hospital and swimming classes for day center attendees. and disability and care homes at the University Club’s Gonnet headquarters.
