Geoffrey Blancaneaux first Frenchman qualified for the 3rd round of qualifying at Roland-Garros

Blancaneaux as a regular

Geoffrey Blancaneaux definitely knows the recipe. For the fourth time in his last five appearances at Roland-Garros, the 25-year-old Parisian will be present in the third round of qualifying. He defeated Croatian Duje Adjukovic (7-5, 6-4) on Wednesday, seeded number 21 who is 147 places ahead of him in the ATP rankings (130th, while Blancaneaux is in 277th position).

As when he entered the fray against his compatriot Antoine Escoffier, the winner of the junior edition in 2016 emerged victorious in a disjointed match, with sixteen breaks out of twenty-two games played! He will face the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic (134th in the world), on fire in recent weeks – defeater of Lucas Pouille then of Filip Krajinovic in the previous rounds – for a second participation in the final draw.

“There, it’s just fun, I’m going to enjoy every moment because there have been few days like this for quite some time. »

“Physically and mentally, I feel very good,” says Blancaneaux. It’s been a long time since I last won two games. And I’m playing against good players, that’s important. I recovered well from the first round, but on this second it wasn’t very long so I’ll just have to manage the emotions on the third. I only have one step left to take. There, it’s just fun, I’m going to enjoy every moment because there have been few days like this for quite some time. »

End of course for Couacaud, Tan and Guinard

Enzo Couacaud led by a set and a break, but ended up losing against Valentin Vacherot (4-6, 6-3, 7-5), after 2h27′ of play. The native of Roquebrune-Cap -Martin, seeded number 14 in the qualifiers who defends the colors of Monaco, thus offered himself the scalp of a second Frenchman on court 14, after Gabriel Debru.

Still affected by her fight of more than three and a half hours in the first round, Harmony Tan resisted as best she could against Argentina’s Julia Riera, 93rd in the world, without managing to find solutions (6-3, 6-2). She even had to call a medical timeout mid-game after a fall at the start of the second set. Manuel Guinard came much closer to victory, going as far as the super tie-break before giving in against the Briton Billy Harris (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 [4]).

No more success for Maxime Janvier, defeated by the Spaniard Alejandro Moro Canas (6-3, 6-4), notably winner of the Rome Challenger last month. The 27-year-old from Ile-de-France will not make a third appearance in the final draw of Roland-Garros this year.
