The tug of war over ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick continues these days. The German “Bild” newspaper reported on Wednesday that the 65-year-old German had expressed a fundamental willingness to those responsible at FC Bayern Munich to come to Munich after the European Championship finals in Germany. ÖFB President Klaus Mitterdorfer, however, emphasized on ORF the hope of being able to keep the successful coach with the association.

“We are in good communication with the team boss, he has not yet made a final decision. It’s still open, I hope a decision will be made for us in the near future,” said the Carinthian at the final of the Uniqa ÖFB Cup. Rangnick still has a contract with the association until 2026 and no exit clause.

Mitterdorfer referred to the possibilities that Rangnick would find here: “What is important for a person like Ralf Rangnick are his creative possibilities. He has noticed how he can inspire the players and what emotions he can ignite. He is a person who wants to get involved everywhere, and he would have this opportunity with us. The final decision rests with him. There has not yet been any contact with Bayern Munich (from the ÖFB side, note).”

ÖFB: Tug of war over Rangnick continues

According to the German “Bild” newspaper, ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick has expressed a fundamental willingness to those responsible at FC Bayern Munich to come to Munich after the European Championship finals in Germany. However, details of the transfer still need to be clarified. The 65-year-old has a contract with the ÖFB until 2026.

Rangnick was a guest in Klagenfurt. A planned statement by the German on ORF was canceled, ÖFB managing director Bernhard Neuhold said in an interview: “We don’t want to make a water level report. We already made a clear statement last week saying that the ball is in his court to speak out and make a decision about what he wants to do in the future. We are trying everything to continue on the path we have chosen.”

After the rejections of Xabi Alonso (Leverkusen) and Julian Nagelsmann (DFB coach), Rangnick is the preferred candidate in Munich. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund believes a decision on the coaching question is possible before the Champions League second leg at Real Madrid next Wednesday.
