Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars Advance to NHL Play-off Semifinals, Knicks Miss NBA Semifinals Entry

The Florida Panthers have qualified for the NHL play-off semifinals. Last year’s finalist won the sixth game of the “best of seven” series against the Boston Bruins on Friday (local time) 2:1 (0:1, 1:0, 1:0) and decided the series with 4:2 victories itself.

Florida defender Gustav Forsling scored the winning goal a minute and a half before the end of the game. In the play-off semi-finals of the North American Ice Hockey League, the Panthers will meet the New York Rangers, the first duel will take place next Wednesday (local time).

The Dallas Stars also reached the next round. The team from Texas beat the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 (0-0, 0-1, 1-0) after double overtime to also win the series 4-2. Matt Duchene scored to give the Stars victory in the 12th minute of the second overtime period.

Dallas still has to wait for its opponent in the next round. These are either the Edmonton Oilers around German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl or the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver leads with 3-2 wins.

Basketball: Knicks miss early entry into the NBA play-off semifinals

The New York Knicks missed out on reaching the NBA play-off semifinals early and for the first time since 2000. On Friday (local time) the Knicks lost the sixth game of the “best of seven” series at the Indiana Pacers with 103:116 (51:61), which meant that the Pacers were able to equalize to 3:3 after victories.

The decisive seventh game of the series in the North American Basketball League will take place next Sunday (local time) in New York; so far every team has won its home games. The winner will face the Boston Celtics in the East Conference Finals.

It was an even game until the middle of the second quarter, then the Pacers went on a 10-0 run to take the lead to 61:48 and controlled the action in the second half. “We moved the ball better and got more rebounds – that’s crucial in this series,” said Indians head coach Rick Carlisle.

The Pacers had six players score in double figures, Pascal Siakam was the best scorer with 25 points. For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson became the top scorer with 31 points, while the German Isaiah Hartenstein had four points, seven rebounds and six assists.
