FC Barcelona is going through turbulent times these days, coach Xavi has just been fired. Marc-André ter Stegen is suspected of having something to do with it. This infuriates the national goalkeeper.

FC Barcelona’s national soccer goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has vehemently rejected media reports that he contributed to the dismissal of his club coach Xavi Hernández. “I will not tolerate anyone using my name to create a bad mood with false information,” ter Stegen wrote on the online platform X.

In the podcast “Barça Reservat” on the Catalan radio station Catalunya Ràdio, it had previously been claimed that ter Stegen had expressed the professionals’ displeasure at an alleged meeting with club boss Joan Laporta and members of the sports commission due to negative comments by Xavi about the team’s performance.

Ter Stegen described this information as false and wrote: “The story published by ‘Barça Reservat’ directly attacks my personal values.” The 32-year-old former Mönchengladbach player also stressed that if he “has something to say or inform,” he will “always be very direct” with the person in question.

Xavi announced his resignation

Barcelona announced on Friday that they would be parting ways with Xavi at the end of this season. The long-time international player had already announced his retirement at the end of the season, but then changed his mind and was fired himself. The reason for this is apparently critical comments that Xavi had made about Barcelona’s financial situation and the club’s management.
