European Pre-Olympic Archery Competition: Italian Hopes for Paris 2024

Eve day in view of European Pre-Olympic archery competition, scheduled in Essen from Sunday 5 to Monday 6 May. The German location, which will subsequently host the European Championships from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 May, will be the scene of a crucial event in terms of individual Olympic qualification towards the Paris 2024 Games.

In fact, the continental Pre-Olympic is up for grabs 3 individual quotas (maximum one per nation) per genderwith the minimum requirement, however, of reaching at least the quarter-finals to at least guarantee the possibility of a possible repechage (athletes outside the top 8 will not be taken into consideration). Italy, already certain of an individual women’s slot thanks to Chiara Rebagliati’s bronze at the 2023 European Games, will therefore participate in the tournament only with the men (still dry).

The Italian selection lines up for the occasion Mauro Nespoli, Federico Musolesi and Alessandro Paolicalled upon to put in a great performance to get to the end (it is enough that the best of our standard bearers is preceded in the final ranking by representatives of a maximum of two different countries, while remaining in the top 8) and guarantee the Bel Paese the certainty of bringing at least one man in Paris and then try to qualify the trio in the next available chances.

The Italian archers will have to contend mainly with the British, the Israeli Roy Dror, the Dutch, the Slovenians, a couple of Luxembourgers, the Finn Antti Tekoniemi, the Croatian Alen Remar, the Belgian Jarno De Smedt and two Swiss in the absence of France, Turkey, Spain, Germany and Moldova (nations already with at least one pass in the men’s field).
