Environmentalists criticize this. Environmentalists say: artificial turf is bad for the environment. When people walk across the artificial turf, very small plastic particles come off. These particles can enter rivers and then into the sea. This is not good for the animals and plants in the sea.

The organizers say: Our artificial turf is climate-neutral. This means that no harmful climate gases were emitted into the air for the lawn. The city of Berlin says: When the European Championships are over, we will use the artificial turf for football pitches.

The European Football Championship is from June 14th to July 14th. Football fans can watch the games on screens in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. The artificial turf should be on the street in front of the Brandenburg Gate. This is very expensive. The artificial turf will cost 1.2 million euros.
