Duncan Robinson Finds Strength in Change of Mentality for Breakout Season

Less visible in the last two years with competition from Max Strus and Gabe Vincent, Duncan Robinson has found strength on an individual level this season. The Heat shooter thus had a full season, even to the point of obtaining a few votes for Most Improved Player!

But for Duncan Robinson, this rebound is not necessarily linked to the hard work produced last summer, but rather to a change in mentality.

“I found that the most important thing and the area to improve was the mind”, he emphasizes to the Miami Herald. “It’s the culmination of a lot of work. When you go from year to year, people focus on the previous summer as if all of a sudden we’ve done things we’ve never done before. I’m a very routine person, and I basically did the same thing as usual. Of course there are adjustments, but the most important thing has been the change in mentality. »

The best is still to come

Certainly “helped” by the injuries of Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler, and of course the departures of Max Strus and Gabe Vincent, who gave him back an essential role in Miami’s feverish attack, Duncan Robinson still signed a season full with 68 games averaging 12.9 points (double the previous season), 45% shooting, including 39.5% from distance. The Heat player also more than doubled his rebounds and assists.

Not bad for a player who has just celebrated his 30th birthday, and who has often been presented as one-dimensional…

The sniper has ventured more into the paint this season and set his record for assists, proof that he is not just an end-of-the-line shooter. Better, he assures that his best years are ahead of him.

“The crazy thing is I just turned 30”, he concludes. “ But perhaps what’s even crazier is that I still think I’m far from a finished product. A lot of people say that at age 28 you hit your ‘prime’, but I feel like my ‘prime’ is still ahead of me. »
