Montreal, May 9, 2024 – President of Judo BC for five years, Donna Hanson is back on the Judo Canada Board of Directors. The manager was once again eligible to occupy a seat within the national federation since her departure from Judo BC last December.

Her first stint with Judo Canada, where she represented Western Canada and the Yukon, convinced her to dive into adventure again.

“I liked the challenge of working with an organization on a national level. Working with a good team that is responsible and always listens to its members, whether athletes, coaches or volunteers, that’s what I appreciated, recognizes Ms. Hanson. This sports organization is very professional, responsible and not afraid to try new things. »

Donna Hanson has extensive experience in the world of judo. The one who is affiliated with the club in Vernon, British Columbia, has been an athlete, coach and official at the national A level.

“It gives me the perspective of each role, even if it is not essential to sit on the board where everyone brings their experience. This is a good board of directors. I’ve never been the type of person who wants to make big changes. I believe I have my place on the board and if there are files in which work needs to be done, I want to be there to help. Judo Canada is going in a great direction and I want to help them in this direction,” continues the woman who is also a retired police officer from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

His entry into office will allow him to finish a two-year term in a seat left vacant following a departure.

Nicolas Gillgeneral manager and director of high performance of Judo Canada, is excited to see the arrival of Ms. Hanson on the board of directors, which has four women out of a total of nine members.

“Under his leadership, British Columbia has progressed tremendously. It is the province with the strongest membership growth. Her time as president of Judo BC is really positive and she will be able to contribute to Canadian judo. I see his arrival at CA positively. »

Ms. Hanson explains that the growth of judo in her province is the result of teamwork.

“When sport was put on ice during the pandemic lockdown, Judo BC did everything in its power to maintain links with its members, especially the youngest, to offer different online activities. This allowed them to better bounce back after COVID-19 and then continue growth thanks to this follow-up with members. »

At the end of her current mandate, the manager will then be eligible for another four-year mandate.
