Decisive Summer Ahead for New Orleans Pelicans: NBA Season Recap and Future Plans

With the 4-0 defeat suffered in the first round of the NBA playoffs against Oklahoma, the season ends for New Orleans. David Griffin, head of management, said that this summer could be decisive for the future of the franchise.

NBA, THE PELICANS SEASON

New Orleans managed to improve its record for the third year in a row; finishing the season in eighth place, the Pelicans had to compete in the play-ins. After losing to the Lakers, Willie Green’s team managed to beat Sacramento and reach the playoffs; in the first round, however, they had to face OKC without the injured Zion Williamson, the outcome was a clear 4-0, demonstrating the strength of the Thunder this season.

NBA, THE POSSIBLE DECISIONS OF THE NEW ORLEANS MANAGEMENT

The player the Pelicans want to start with is certainly Zion Williamson. The number one has proven to be a fundamental player, but in the most important moment of the season yet another muscle injury forced him to stay away from the pitch.

The other two players who can be an anchor for the team are: Herb Jones and Trey Murphy. The second could have a contract extension this summer and the Pelicans would like to make him a permanent starter.

The expendable player for a possible reconstruction is Brandon Ingram. Nola’s number 14 ended his season with an average of 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists; what limited him, however, were injuries. For this reason New Orleans could think of focusing on another player.

Another who could pack his bags is Jonas Valanciunas. The Lithuanian’s contract is expiring, but, given his advancing age, the Pelicans could decide not to renew, also due to the high costs they would incur.

At the NBA Draft, the management could focus on a big man, also to add a prospect to grow alongside Zion, with the hope that he will be able to adapt to the number 1’s game.
