Darvish dominates as Padres defeat Braves 9-1

ATLANTA –

Yu Darvish dominated the Braves’ offense, extending his hitting streak to 25 and recording his 200th hit, and the San Diego Padres beat Atlanta 9-1 on Sunday.

Darvish (4-1) allowed just two hits, struck out nine and walked one in 99 walks in seven innings, lowering his ERA to 2.08.

He became the third Japanese-born pitcher to reach 200 wins between Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball, joining Hiroki Huroda (203) and Hideo Nomo (201). Darvish, who has won his last four games, has 107 wins in the Major Leagues and 93 in the NBA.

The Padres hit three home runs after failing to hit extra-base hits in their previous three games.

Venezuelan Luis Arraes went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base, extending his hitting streak to 23 games, the longest active streak in the majors.

Dominican Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Jackson Merrill had RBI singles. Fernando Tatis Jr. also scored a double.

For the Padres, Venezuelan Luis Arraes was 2 of 5 with one run scored. Dominican Fernando Tatis Jr. went 1 for 5 with one run and two RBIs and Manny Machado went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

For the Braves, Dominican Marcell Ozuna has a 4-1 record. Venezuela Orlando Arcía 3-1.
