FC Bayern finished 2-2 in a thrilling game against Real Madrid. Surprisingly, the outstanding Munich player is Konrad Laimer. The Austrian national player almost missed the game. His colleague Joshua Kimmich praises him enormously.
Joshua Kimmich was thrilled when he came out of the FC Bayern dressing room around midnight on Tuesday. “Outstanding,” the national player called Konrad Laimer’s performance after the 2-2 (0-1) draw in the first semi-final of the Champions League against Real Madrid. It was by far the midfielder’s best game in his time in Munich so far. “He made good decisions with and against the ball,” said Kimmich.
In fact, Laimer was the best Bayern professional on this special football evening, in this exciting game in the sold-out Munich stadium. He threw himself into every duel and played good passes – although his use was initially questionable due to an ankle capsule injury. Coach Thomas Tuchel said Laimer played very well. Honorary President Uli had already said before the season that Laimer was a very good transfer and could be very important.

The 26-year-old Laimer only smiled briefly when reporters spoke to him on the night of the high praise. “It was certainly a good game for me, but it doesn’t matter now. It’s no use in the grand scheme of things, if you play 2-2, I don’t care,” said the Austrian international. “I was always the type of player who gave it his all. That was just fun. And it will also be fun next week (in the second leg, editor). It’s the semi-finals and everything is on the line. These are the games you play football for.”
It’s definitely annoying, “when you concede a goal so late it always hurts, especially in the semi-finals.” Real can always strike, “we had to feel that twice. Overall we did well, but we allowed too much.”

Next Wednesday Bayern will play in the legendary Bernabeu Stadium. Laimer has never played there – he missed the game with his former club RB Leipzig in Madrid due to a torn syndesmotic ligament. The club dreams of the final, which will take place on June 1st at Wembley Stadium in London.
“We know what’s coming next week. We will have enough chances. In the end, it’s the details that decide such games. I’m very confident,” said Laimer. “We have the quality, the rooms are there. We have to be fully present in our heads. It is important for everyone to simply take another step, to achieve a few percent more. That’s how you win the games.”
