Carlos Alcaraz Prepares for Roland Garros Return After Battling Injury

Carlos Alcaraz will land this Wednesday in Paris to participate in Roland Garros, the Grand Slam that starts on Sunday. The Murcian has been suffering from an injury to his right forearm since the beginning of the dirt tour, which forced him to give up Monte Carlo and Godó. Later, he reappeared at the Madrid Masters 1,000 in which he was defending his title. But he fell in the quarterfinals against Andrey Rublev and worsened the injury, forcing him to take a new break and announce his resignation from Rome.

Alcaraz rested for a few days and avoided picking up the racket until last Monday the 13th. According to reports from those around him, the training sessions have been very controlled, increasing the intensity and strength with the drive progressively. The sessions have alternated between the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia, in El Palmar, and the academy of his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, in Villena.

But between physical recovery and track sessions, he also had to work on his mind a lot, dealing with the insecurity that the injury caused him. For this reason, he has had several sessions with his psychologist, Josefina Cutillas. At the Caja Mágica, Alcaraz already acknowledged that he was gripped during the games, afraid to let go of his arm. “I have probably thought more about the forearm than about yesterday’s match (against Jan Lennard Struff in the round of 16). After playing for three hours, I knew that he was going to feel something or think more about it,” explained the Murcian, who continues training with a compression mesh, after losing to Rublev.
