Cantù Basketball: bad evening at PalaCarnera

Udine made a decisive start, but Baldi Rossi brought the match back into balance with 5 consecutive points. Monaldi is the protagonist of a final mini-stretch for the Bianconeri who end the first quarter ahead 20-16. Udine starts again with great vigor and extends up to +8. Young unlocks Acqua S.Bernardo with two triples, Berdini follows him and brings the gap back to just one point. Monaldi interrupts the run with a triple that reverses the momentum. Baldi Rossi and Alibegovic scored the last points, thus sending the two teams to the break at 37-30. Cannon and Alibegovic immediately score 9 consecutive points and APU flies to +16. Cantù returns to score with Young and Hickey. After a timeout, Udine finds rhythm and returns to equalize its maximum lead. Coach Cagnardi: “It’s a shame”

Coach’s comment in the press conference Quote Cagnardi after the third match of the series between Acqua S.Bernardo Cantù and Udine.

“It’s a shame because we didn’t approach too badly, offering some good defensive stops. The real problem is that we ended up at -7 in the second quarter, with our opponents scoring 17 points after grabbing an offensive rebound. They shot a lot more possessions of us, for the simple fact that after we made some good defenses, they had the chance to make a second shot and that made all the difference in the world. It took away our confidence and opened the gap at the beginning of the third quarter, two of our poorly executed attacks and two of their baskets further opened up this gap, which they were then good at managing. I must say that we certainly didn’t offer a good game, especially in terms of percentages. We shot badly with some player but unfortunately it happens. However, you have to know that they will always be contested shots, always shots with contact and bordering on fouls as is normal and right in a playoff match. So absolutely nothing to complain about the referee’s penalty given to our opponents great physicality. Now we’ll rest, we’ll look back at the match and we’ll focus on Game 4 to prepare for it as best we can.”
