The latest social clue is a photo published in the stories of his Instagram profile, which he had already used little for tennis in recent times, a few hours before the announcement of his retirement went around the tennis world. Camila Giorgi posed in front of a mirror in a lace dress just before saying goodbye – or rather, closing the door behind her – canceling herself from the anti-doping protocol and her name automatically appeared listed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in which the retired players appear. A unique way for her to say goodbye to the sport of her life: a mystery that has become increasingly thick in the last few hours, when many have tried to contact her and her entourage – including WTA – without success .

The phones are off the hook

At the Foro Italico the news of his unavailability immediately circulated among the experts. His phone, the one of the padre and that of the fratelli Leandro and Amadeus they are all disconnected, the only communication concerns an announcement which however could not arrive before Roland Garros. There are those who speak of a move abroad, perhaps linked to the case involving her regarding false anti-Covid vaccinations, in which however she has always declared herself innocent.

The carreer

Giorgi would therefore have officially put down his racket, effectively ending his career with the match lost in Miami, on March 24, against the world number 1 Iga Swiatek: 6-1, 6-1. In the WTA singles rankings she occupies 116th position. She was not on the entry list for the Italian Internationals and was also in doubt about participation in the Roland Garros. After debuting at a very young age, at just 14 years old, on the professional circuit, Camila is rose up to number 26 in the ranking (22 October 2018) and put four trophies on the board.

She won the first in June 2015 on the Dutch grass of s’-Hertogenbosch (WTA 250). This was followed by the fast indoor one in Linz (WTA 250) in October 2018, the one on the hard court in Montreal (WTA 1000), the most prestigious, in August 2021, and the one in Merida (WTA 250), again on hard court, in February 2023. He has reached six other finals: Katowice and Linz 2014, Katowice (2015), Katowice (2016), Washington and Bronx 2019. In the Slams the best result is the quarter-finals at Wimbledon 2018. On the courts Giorgi has also made headlines for the not always easy relationship with her father and coach Sergio, of Argentine origins, defined by her detractors as a “father-master” who would often harm her with his vehement protests against the referees. But she has always given total trust to her father, also aware of what her family had been through after the death of her eldest daughter Antonela at the age of 23 in an accident in Paris.
