Bronny James Focused on Making NBA Dream a Reality, Despite Connection to Famous Father

Bronny James, the son of basketball icon LeBron James, is currently unconcerned about the prospect of joining forces with his famous father in the NBA. “I would be happy to make it to the league instead of thinking about playing with my dad. That’s not my mindset, not at all. I’m just trying to do my job and see where that takes me leads,” said the 19-year-old on Tuesday as part of the NBA Draft Combine, a kind of screening course.

Bronny James is registered for the draft, the big talent draw, on June 26th and 27th. Recently there were rumors that NBA teams could select him so that LeBron James would also move to them. The 39-year-old’s contract with the Los Angeles Lakers is expiring, but James has a player option for a one-year extension. In previous years, the four-time NBA champion had expressed his desire to play with his son at the end of his career.

Meanwhile, Bronny, actually LeBron James Jr., wants his persona to be viewed separately from his father: “Bronny was just a nickname I was given when I was younger. But everything that has to do with my father, “I’m trying to associate people with me – and with all the extraordinary things he’s achieved. I haven’t achieved anything yet, so I feel like there has to be this separation between Bronny and LeBron.”

In July of the previous year, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest during training, five months later he was back on the court and played a mixed debut college season at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He now has until May 29th to decide whether he wants to stay in the draft or go back to college.
