Bow Champion Eric Esposito Takes Home Four Medals in a Week

Four medals, including two silver, one gold and one bronze, in less than a week. The 23 year old from Desenzano Eric Esposito thus confirming himself as national naked bow champion in the Italian Cup and world vice champion in the field shooting specialty. From 3 to 9 October, the Garda archer competed the World Cup in Yanktonin South Dakota, where she obtained second place individually in her discipline, losing in the final to the Frenchman David Jackson, but also silver in the mix team with Cinzia Noziglia.

On October 15th and 16th, however, Eric was ranked first in the individual ranking of Italian bare bow cup, held in Settimo Torinese, and third in head-to-head matches. «Second place at the World Championship was a hoped-for but unexpected success – confides the champion, who is affiliated with the Compagnia Arcieri di Malpaga Bartolomeo Colleoni of Bergamo and in his life works as a turner for Tecnomeccanica of Desenzano-. I had some travel unexpected events, I arrived a little tired. After the first two days of competition I reached the semi-final, which I won against barebow legend Erik Jonsson. In the final I didn’t shine, but neither did my opponent, and in the end I lost by two points.”

The medal that Esposito won is also silver paired with the best Italian naked bow shooter, Noziglia: «It was the first time that the mix team specialty was introduced in a World Championship – specifies the man from Desenzano – so I am very satisfied with the result». A week later Eric then obtained two medals, a gold and a bronze, in the Italian Cup held in Settimo Torinese, a fixed distance competition of 50 meters on 122 centimeter targets.

«The next races will be in 2023 – announces the champion, who started archery at the age of ten and has continuously worn the colors of the national team since 2015 -. Work permitting, he will participate in the indoor European championships in Turkey in February and then in the outdoor ones, in the field shooting and 3D disciplines, which will be held in San Sicario in the province of Turin in September. «This is a demanding sport great knowledge of oneself – concludes Eric -, as well as patience and perseverance. But it is also within everyone’s reach. The only one in which, for example, disabled people compete together with able-bodied people.”
