Indianapolis (dpa) – The Boston Celtics are close to making it to the finals of the North American professional basketball league NBA again. The record champions also won the third game of the Eastern Conference finals series against the Indiana Pacers. They now only need one more win to reach the finals. In the 114:111 (57:69) away win, the Celtics were behind for large parts of the game – by as many as 18 points.
It was not until the final minute that Jrue Holiday brought the Celtics back into the lead. He then managed to win the ball three seconds before the end, before Holiday scored the last points of the game with two converted free throws. Boston’s Jayson Tatum was the outstanding player with 36 points, ten rebounds and eight assists.
The Pacers, who had previously won all of their home games in this year’s playoffs, put in a strong performance but were missing their injured star player Tyrese Haliburton in the closing stages. They now face the task of becoming the first team in NBA history to win a series after trailing 3-0. In 154 cases in which a team has lost the first three games of a series, this has never happened.
Boston, on the other hand, is about to make it to the finals for the second time in the last three seasons. In 2022, the Celtics, including German national player Daniel Theis, lost to the Golden State Warriors. Boston, which is tied with the Los Angeles Lakers with 17 titles, won its last championship in 2008.
