Although he is taking part in a film that is being shown here, he kept his attendance a secret until the very end. The surprise was all the greater when his girlfriend Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro (33) showed up at his side – with a precious ring on her finger!

Becker did not want to reveal when the proposal took place or whether there is already a wedding date. He values his privacy very much.
However, happiness doesn’t always have to be explained in great detail, and love certainly doesn’t. The way they both look at each other during their conversation in Cannes says more than a thousand words.

Lilian and Boris have been in a relationship since 2020. The risk analyst from London also stayed by his side when the former tennis player had to endure his trial and a prison sentence of several months in 2022.
The couple now lives in Milan, from where they traveled to the Cannes Film Festival. The documentary “Nasty – More than just Tennis” was presented there. The film tells the life of the former Romanian world-class player Ilie “Nasty” Nastase (77).

“Ilie is a big name in tennis,” says Boris Becker, “and also an old friend of mine. As an active player, he was a great personality, a showman.” In the 1970s, Nastase was one of the best players on the planet, leading the tennis world rankings for a total of 40 weeks.

Nastase also had a reputation for being temperamental. “Of course his nickname is ‘Nasty’ because he was sometimes a bit more cynical and critical on the field, but that’s how he was,” Becker continued.
Boris was about 16 when he met Nastase through his long-time manager Ion Tiriac (85). About 40 years ago he also played against Nastase – and won. Now Boris has appeared in the documentary about Nastase’s life.

Nastase and Tiriac were also present at the premiere in Cannes, along with a large delegation of former tennis players. Beforehand, they celebrated the release of their film at a small reception backstage. And perhaps also the engagement of Boris and Lilian.
