“Can’t argue away the importance” – Will St. Pauli make promotion clear in the city derby?

FC St. Pauli can secure promotion to the Bundesliga with a win in the city derby against Hamburger SV. Coach Fabian Hürzeler is looking forward to the game with great anticipation.

Theater owner Corny Littmann was president of FC St. Pauli for seven years. Before the city derby against Hamburger SV, he launched an all-round attack against the club from the Volkspark. The structure is chaotic and the staff is clueless. This has far-reaching consequences.

Before the Hamburg football derby on Friday evening, former St. Pauli president Corny Littmann criticized the long-standing failure of city rivals HSV. “Above all, there is poor work by those responsible. But this club is simply organized in a completely chaotic manner,” said the theater owner in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

An example of this is: “It is currently a question of whether sports director Jonas Boldt can keep his job, there are arguments for and against,” said Littmann. “But such a question is decided by six supervisory board members who have no idea about this business. Do you think they can assess the situation seriously? Or that they have Felix Magath’s number on hand if they want him as Boldt’s successor? Never in my life.”

St. Pauli faces HSV for the first time

The 71-year-old Littmann was president of FC St. Pauli from 2003 to 2010. This Friday (6.30 p.m./Sky live), the Kiezklub can complete the sixth promotion in the club’s history to the Bundesliga in, of all places, the stadium of their big city rivals. If HSV then fails to achieve this major goal for the sixth time in a row, St. Pauli would not only finish the season ahead of Hamburger SV for the first time, but would also play in a higher league than the six-time German champions for the first time in the coming season.

“It’s amazing how HSV partners support this year-long lack of success without complaint. And do they hope that this will generate advertising for themselves?” said Littmann caustically. “That’s why I believe that something could actually change if St. Pauli were to play in the first division and HSV in the second division. A new generation of entrepreneurs is in the starting blocks – and they will orientate themselves towards the more successful partner.”
