Indonesian badminton player Muhammad Rian Ardianto reveals plans to marry Rebekah Sugiarto after Paris 2024 Olympics.
This was conveyed by Rian, following Rebekah’s resignation from the PBSI National Training Center which was announced on Thursday (16/5/2024). As is known, PBSI, through the Head of Binpres, Ricky Soebagdja, announced a number of things related to the withdrawal of several athletes from Pelatnas. Apart from Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Bilqis Prasista, there is also Ribka Sugiarto.
The 2024 Swiss Open champion has conveyed his resignation from Pelatnas through the women’s doubles coach, Eng Hian, which was then forwarded to the Head of the PBSI Binpres, Ricky, via a press conference on Thursday (16/5).
The reason is related to preparations before the wedding. Rian, when met separately, confirmed the decision taken by his girlfriend.
“Yesterday there was a lot of conversation and consideration from Rebekah and I,” said Rian when met after training, Thursday (16/5/2024).
“He chose to resign because this year we also want to get married, actually there are many other considerations too. Yes, we have talked so it would be better for him to focus on preparing for the wedding,” he said.
Besides Rebekah who wants to be more focused before leaving his single life, Rian also still has to concentrate on himself Olympic. He and Fajar Alfian are certain to appear in Paris next July after placing seventh in the Race to Paris qualifications.
“Yes, she (Ribka) always told me that she would support me to play in the Olympics first, so that I can focus first, so she can take care of everything else outside of it,” said the 2023 and 2024 All England champion.
“So the marriage is over Olympic,” he continued.
Asking if there is a plan Rebekah returned to playing badminton after marriage, Rian admitted that he had not discussed the matter.
“There hasn’t been any talk about coming back yet. I mean he’s really focused on preparing (the wedding),” he said.
“Maybe I don’t know if I’ll play again, but to this day what I heard is that she (Ribka) still wants to focus on preparing for the wedding and starting a family first,” said Rian.
