Badminton on the Rise: PBSI Sumedang Promotes Youth Development through Tournaments

VIVA – Badminton is becoming more and more popular in Sumedang Regency. PBSI Sumedang held various competitions for youth, children, beginners and adults under the guidance of Indra Jayaatmaja.

As is currently happening, PBSI Sumedang Open Badminton Tournament 2024. 700 participants participated in this event.

PBSI Sumedang newspaper president WF Reinaldi admitted that since Indra took office in 2023, badminton has become more interesting in Tahu City.

“Actually, we are interested in educating children. And under the current leadership, it is possible to hold events that were not as easy as now,” Reynaldi said.

Reinaldi added that the badminton situation in Sumedang is improving now because the management is full of people who really love badminton.

“In reality, it is more alive than in the previous era. Now, in terms of management, maybe 95 percent are young people and all badminton players. Now, the pure badminton enthusiasts, the former athletes, the gym owners, are united because they know what they are doing.” Badminton is like he said.

“In addition, we always communicate even if the president is not in Sumedang. Therefore, we just follow the president’s instructions. And we coordinate with the management. “We are always with the president about the budget and other things,” he said.

Meanwhile, Indra Jayatmaja stated that his mission as general president of PBSI Sumedang is to develop young badminton players who can compete at the national level.

Therefore, one of the measures to attract young badminton players is to increase the number of youth competitions.

“That is why we are diligent in holding contests, this is one of the work programs of our management,” said Indra.

Apart from holding tournaments in Tofu City, Indra said there are other measures to develop young badminton players.

“We are also trying to support potential badminton players to participate in regional and national tournaments,” said the local man, who will participate in the 2024 Sumedang Regency Pilkada.

On the other hand, the growing development of badminton in Sumedang has led to the arrival of sponsors. BJB representative Topan Surya praised the PBSI Sumedang Open 2024, which he also hopes will produce outstanding badminton players.

“I hope that in the future there will be Sumedang representatives at bigger events, Porda and PON and international competitions,” Topan said.

“BJB starts with the community and is for the community. So our hope is to be able to support the seeds at a young age so they can grow.”

“We hope that youth competitions are not limited only to senior categories. That is why we support this event. If it is for the development of the country, we are willing to support it,” he explained.
