Atlanta Braves Star Outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. Sidelined for Season with Torn ACL

Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr.’s season is over.

Acuna left Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in an 8-1 victory for his team. After the game, however, a magnetic resonance imaging test revealed that he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Acuna attempted to steal the third cushion when he fell in the first inning. The 26-year-old received help from his teammates to leave the field and was holding his knee.

During training camp in March, the Venezuelan missed a few weeks of activity due to a knee injury. He also suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2021.

Before the medical tests, Acuna said, however, that he did not think this new injury was as serious as the one suffered in 2021.

The reigning National League MVP has a .246 batting average and 16 stolen bases in 48 games this season.

Jarred Kelenic came in relief for Acuna and had three hits in four at-bats. Matt Olson and Adam Duvall both stretched their arms solo in the eighth inning for their eighth and fourth home runs of the season.

Starter Chris Sale had a good outing for the Braves. In seven innings of work, the 35-year-old veteran recorded eight strikeouts and allowed four hits.
