The durum wheat marketing scheme for the 2023-2024 autumn-winter cycle advances. Farmers will be paid a fixed price of the equivalent of 300 dollars per ton plus 200 pesos per ton of support and bonuses for grain quality.
The Ministry of Agriculture informs that in compliance with the agreements with producers, agribusiness and state governments and the latest market increases on the Chicago Stock Exchange for durum wheat, per ton of grain will be paid at a fixed price of the equivalent of 300 dollars.
Thus, durum wheat producers who already contracted at a level of less than 300 dollars per ton will be approved at 300 dollars. It is considered that farmers, especially in southern Sonora and northern Sinaloa, will benefit from this agreement.
And regarding the producers who contracted to sell their harvest at a level better than $300 per ton, their contract will be respected.
To those who have not yet sold their wheat harvest from the Northwest, Sader urges them to start contracting as soon as possible, so that they have certainty in the marketing of their grain.
It is explained that the new fixed price covers production costs and generates a minimum profit of 4.0 percent.
The addition of support from Segalmex to acquire risk management instruments for $200 pesos per ton should be considered, which improves its utility up to 8.0 percent.
The Ministry of Agriculture points out that this marketing scheme ensures that the production of durum wheat will be acquired by the national flour industry, which guarantees the supply of cereal in the country.
The National Chamber of the Wheat Milling Industry (Canimolt), in turn, reported an advance of 60 percent in the delivery of cereal to the industry.
And in Baja California, thanks to the support of the State Government’s coverage, income levels will be higher than $300 per ton. This will generate the farmer an additional profit in the range of 9 to 12 dollars per additional ton and free of costs.
A production of 1.2 million tons of durum wheat is expected.
