Antonio De Introna: 60 Years as President of Cus Macerata

MACERATA Cus Macerata will face the four-year period 2024-2027 still with Antonio De Introna at the helm. The president, or rather the very president, was confirmed as number one of the organization during the annual members’ meeting and if this does not represent anything new, on the contrary, the longevity of “Totò” at the head is increasingly becoming a Guinness World Record of the sports center.

INSIGHTS

In fact, De Introna was elected for the first time at the top of Cus Macerata way back in 1964 and is therefore celebrating 60 years of presidency. A sort of diamond wedding, 60 years without interruptions, which represent a more unique than rare case not only among the Cus of Italy, but more generally in the world of sport.

The announcement

De Introna told those present that this however “will be my last election, then I will leave office”. It will thus be possible to fulfill the dream of finally seeing Cus Macerata move and inaugurate the new facilities in the Santa Croce area, structures that have been awaited for decades and up to the standard of Unimc’s general, high-level offer.

Certainly this meeting that just took place was the last meeting held in the gym in via Salvatore Valerio because the headquarters will be abandoned by the end of the month and then work will begin on public housing buildings there. For the occasion the day before yesterday, Francesco Ascenzi was called to preside, the head of the University’s technical offices and infrastructure area who oversaw the project and follows the construction site of the new campus. The assembly also decreed the election of the new board of directors which will be composed of Andrea Scoppa, Matteo Palmioli, Enzo Valentini, Laura Moretti, Pietro Marangoni and Gioia Brambatti. The president of the Board of Auditors Alfredo Benedetti (full members Simone Medei and Cristiano Delcuratolo confirmed) has the task of reporting on the economic state, communicating a 2023 budget which closed with over 50 thousand euros of profit. The confirmation of a trend that has already started a few years ago, even if these figures had never been reached.

The results

The results achieved in 2023 in a strictly sporting context were obviously remembered, starting with the three medals won in the last edition of the National University Championships (gold in cycling with Federico Pirro, silver in judo with Riccardo Verdecchia and second silver in a row for the representative of futsal) and continuing with the growth of the rediscovered judo section and the many joys given by athletics. Even if they “belong” to 2024, we finally celebrated the historic qualification for the next CNU of men’s basketball, the promotion to the First Division of women’s volleyball and best wishes were sent to the five-a-side football group which on Saturday could achieve salvation in Serie B.
