Analysis of the Ferrari SF-24 Evo: updates to the bottom and bodywork – Technical Analysis

Ferrari makes its debut at Fiorano with the updated look that will race in Imola in a week. The new SF-24 introduces itself visually different from the Red at the beginning of the season, with modifications to the bodywork and bottom. The Cavallino espouses some of the solutions also seen on Red Bull and McLaren, but their development began even before the presentation of the rival cars.

Upturned mouths

Prominent news is the new shape of the radiator air intakes, reversed compared to the initial configuration. In fact, what now extends is the upper lip, stretching the upper surface of the bellies.

The modification aims to increase the pressurization of the environment at the sides of the cockpit, generating a high local pressure useful for externally rejecting the turbulence coming from the front, which is harmful to the floor, as well as generating greater aerodynamic load in the center of the car. In parallel, it improves the channeling of flows along the lower part of the side, transporting more energy to the rear axle, invaluable for enhancing the work of the diffuser in generating aerodynamic load. For the same purpose, one also debuts on the SF-24 new bodywork with a more accentuated recess along the lower contourevidence of work to repackage the internal components.

The inverted shape of the side radiator vents recalls what was also seen in 2024 on Red Bull and McLaren. However, during the presentation of the SF-24, technical director Enrico Cardile announced that the updated Ferrari was already being developed in the wind tunnel, even before the launch of the rival cars. The Imola package is therefore entirely the result of Maranello’s intuitionson which the team had been working for several months, suggesting important gains.

Waiting for Imola

The bodywork isn’t the only updated element on the SF-24. The bottom is also changing, an inevitable change considering how much the lower and upper aerodynamics interact with each other on the current generation of single-seaters. The fund seen in Fiorano does not present evident changes to the external edge, but it is good to remember that the most important updates are often hidden under the car and are not appreciable from the outside.

However, it will be necessary wait for Imola to evaluate the overall work carried out in Maranello. In fact, often the less noticeable changes are actually the most important ones, as recalled by the updates brought by McLaren in the last race in Miami. Unlike the Woking team, however, the Cavallino will be able to count on three rounds of free practice and the filming day conducted in Fiorano to learn how to make the most of the innovations.
