Ajax is making it a top priority to bring in a new right winger, reports Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf. The Amsterdammers are completely dissatisfied with Carlos Forbs and want to attract a typical Antony next summer. “There is ten million euros on the shelf,” says Verweij in the Kick-off podcast.
Sven Mislintat convinced Ajax to pay no less than fourteen million euros excluding five million euros in bonuses for Forbs. The attacker, who came over from Manchester City, should have become Ajax’s new right winger, but falls short on all fronts. Forbs was surpassed in the pecking order by Mika Godts and has not even been allowed to substitute for months.
“Ajax wants a type Antony on the right winger,” Verweij understood from sources around Ajax. Antony was sold by the Amsterdam team to Manchester United for no less than 95 million euros in the summer of 2022. At the moment, Steven Berghuis is the only suitable right winger in the selection, but Ajax prefers to see the latter play a role as number 10.

“Ajax can sign one player without selling first,” says Verweij. So that must be the new right winger. “There is ten million euros available for this.”
For the rest, technical director Alex Kroes will first have to sell before he can make purchases. “Just try to get rid of these players,” says Verweij. “These are players with five-year contracts, except for Branco van den Boomen. He came on a free transfer and has signed for four years.”
Ajax takes the departure of supporting forces into account. This way, Steven Bergwijn can leave for the right amount. “I think that all players want to leave Ajax. The expectation is that Ajax will simply not get it back on track next season. It can happen very quickly, but I think those players would like to leave if they have the opportunity and a get a good offer.”
