The star quarterback of the New York Jets no longer has any constraints when he trains with his teammates during activities organized by the team since Monday.

“He’s doing everything he can,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday.

The 40-year-old veteran tore the Achilles tendon in his left foot in the fourth play of his first game with the Jets, against the Buffalo Bills, on September 11. He redoubled his rehabilitation efforts in hopes of making a return to action at the end of last season, but his plans were dashed after the Jets found themselves excluded from the NFL playoff picture – when he was not yet 100% in shape.

Instead, Rodgers has been focusing on being ready for next season – and it appears he’s on schedule.

“He has no constraints, and seems fine,” noted Saleh. He still has exceptional talent, in terms of power with his arm. He simply has to readjust to the environment. We also try to implement new things. We are trying to improve certain things, especially in attack. »

On Tuesday, Saleh also indicated that the question of whether Rodgers is 100% recovered was probably more for the star quarterback. However, he added: “In our opinion, based on what he is able to do, there is no indication that he is limited in what we can ask him to do. »

Rodgers’ return to play injects a dose of optimism into the Jets camp, who were considered among the Super Bowl contenders a year ago – the star quarterback himself and his teammates had not hesitated to talk about it publicly.

The Jets, who have the longest active drought in the NFL without making the playoffs, are once again mentioned among the title contenders. The schedule makers obviously think highly of the Jets, who will play six prime-time games in the first 11 weeks.
