AA Gent’s Julien de Sart Secures Win Against Westerlo and Fends Off Foreign Interest

AA Gent won 3-2 against Westerlo on Saturday and remains in pole position in the Europe Play-Offs. For this, the Buffaloes can be especially grateful to Julien de Sart, who started on the bench for the occasion.

Barely a few minutes after coming on as a substitute, the 29-year-old midfielder, usually one of the first names on Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s score sheet, put the final score on the board. De Sart celebrated his contract extension a few days earlier.

De Sart sought after

When announcing that news, the Buffaloes themselves also surprisingly stated that their mainstay, who has so far scored 17 goals and six assists in 139 appearances for the Ghent team, also received a lot of interest from abroad.

He reportedly received specific offers mainly from Germany and the United States. Although apparently a direct competitor of the Buffaloes was also lurking to steal him from the Planet Group Arena next summer.

Rival lurking

“There was interest, yes. From a German club, which already made an offer in January. And from a Belgian top club. But in Belgium it was Ghent or nothing,” De Sart is finally quoted by The newspapaer. It is not known exactly which rival this is.

According to his coach, De Sart, who is now in Ghent until mid-2028, would certainly have a place in every team in our competition. Antwerp and KRC Genk, among others, where the midfield is quite thin, could use him well.
