Holder of a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis since childhood and have always loved reading the great stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them about them, take full advantage of my passion and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.

The Masters 1000 in Madrid experienced a real nightmare this week and the ATP is surely suffering the backlash from its decisions which challenge more than one. Since last year, the Masters 1000 has begun a metamorphosis to follow the model of Indian Wells and Miami with a two-week tournament. If more players have access to this category of tournaments, the programming of the event but also the upheaval of the calendar arouses a lot of reactions. On arrival, we already have a lot of injured people a few weeks before Roland-Garros. The direct consequence of this revised calendar?

There is only one match left in the men’s draw and we will almost have to implore the divine forces to avoid another catastrophe. In recent days, the tournament has been impacted by injuries which have forced some players out, starting with Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. These two players had to withdraw from the tournament and a third has already withdrawn from the next tournament: Rome. Finally, the one who could benefit from this situation is called… Novak Djokovic.

The best players in the infirmary

Behind Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz et Daniil Medvedev all animate the 2024 season for the moment but this week at Madrid highlighted an important problem: they may have already played a little too much. The Italian has just withdrawn before playing his quarter-final due to hip pain while Daniil Medvedev had to quit after the first set after feeling pain on a run. As if that wasn’t enough, Carlos Alcarazwho finished his match well Madriddeclared forfeit for Rome because of his arm.

A more than open tournament

While the Madrid Masters 1000 is coming to an end, the tournament Rome will start quickly and at the moment, it seems more than open. In the Spanish capital, many surprises were able to cross the table and in Italy, the last rehearsals before Roland-Garros will be important. They could be disrupted by the ambition of other players who we did not necessarily see coming due to the poor form of the world numbers 2, 3 and 4.

Djokovic back soon

Eliminated in the semi-finals Monte-Carlo, Novak Djokovic decided to skip the tournament Madrid to preserve yourself a little. He will therefore arrive in Rome quite fresh and he could well take advantage of the poor form of his main opponents to seize a new title and above all to gain as many marks as possible before Roland-Garros. One thing is certain, next week will be very important.
